Labor Campaign For Single Payer
Fighting for Health Care for All in the Age of Trump

Join Us May 22 For Single Payer Lobby Day

On May 22, we will join with our allies to tell Congress to: Finish the job! Make healthcare a right for everyone in America! Together with Healthcare NOW!, Public Citizen, Physicians for a National Health Program, All Unions Committee for HR 676, and Progressive Democrats of America, we will gather in Washington to lobby our Representatives to co-sponsor HR-676 and HR-1200 and our Senators to co-sponsor S-1782.

The day will begin at 10 AM with a Congressional Briefing in the Rayburn House Office Building. Representatives Conyers, McDermott, Ellison and Grijalva will speak as well as IFPTE National President Greg Junemann, Michael Lighty, NNU’s Director of Public Policy and PNHP President Andy Coates. Meetings with Representatives and Senators will be scheduled from 11:30 AM to 5 PM. An optional training program for first time lobbyists begins at 9 AM. A reception at Public Citizen’s DuPont Circle office will follow. A full schedule of the day is available here.

HR 676, John Conyers’ “Expanded and Improved Medicare for All” Bill now has 57 co-sponsors in the House. Organizers would like to see 30 additional sponsors by the end of this Congressional session to re-build momentum for national single-payer organizing.

Bernie Sanders introduced S-1782, the American Health Security Act in this session of the Senate and chaired a recent well-publicized Senate hearing on What the U.S. Can Learn About Health Care from Other Countries that demolished many of the myths about single-payer in other countries. The Labor Campaign has identified the recruitment of additional sponsors for S 1782 as an organizing priority for this year and the May 22 Lobby Day is an excellent opportunity to start this work.

Senator Sanders will be holding a new hearing on single-payer healthcare at 10 AM on May 21 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Many Lobby Day participants are coming into Washington a day early in order to attend this historic Hearing.

District office visits are being planned for those unable to come to Washington. The Progressive Democrats of America will also be incorporating single-payer messaging in their May Educate Congress Letter Drops. Please contact us at if you want to be put in touch with activities in your area or organize an action of your own.

We urge all who can to come to Washington this May 22 and ask that you encourage your union to send as many members as possible. This is an important opportunity to promote our cause in Washington DC and let Congress know that we will not rest until healthcare is a right for everyone in America.

Let us know if you are coming. Write us
